Parliament concerned about kidnapping of UDM MP Kwankwa

CAPE TOWN - Parliament said it's concerned about the kidnapping of member of Parliament (MP) and United Democratic Movement (UDM) deputy president Nqabayomzi Kwankwa.

Kwankwa was allegedly attacked en route to the Cape Town International Airport (CTIA) and held for ransom on Tuesday.

A ransom of R10,000 was demanded and paid by the party, which said their deputy president was now safe and recovering from the trauma.

The party's leader, Bantu Holomisa, said they had to act quickly to save his life.

The attackers abandoned his car but fled with personal items including permits, his ID, and his driver's licence.

Parliament has expressed relief at Kwankwa's rescue and release following the ordeal.

However, the legislature said the act of criminality was deeply troubling and urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation.

Parliament has extended its full support to Kwankwa as he recovers from the attack.
