The SACP, which has been the African National Congress (ANC)'s alliance partner for over 30 years, said the inclusion of the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Cabinet reflected the ANC's dismal electoral performance.

JOHANNESBURG - The South African Communist Party (SACP) has weighed in on the composition of President Cyril Ramaphosa's Cabinet, saying it reflects the shift in the balance of power in the country.

The party made these remarks during a media briefing in Johannesburg on Monday, on the outcomes of its recent central committee meeting.

The SACP, which has been the African National Congress (ANC)'s alliance partner for over 30 years, said the inclusion of the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Cabinet reflected the ANC's dismal electoral performance.

The organisation's general secretary, Solly Mapaila, said that the ANC should now focus on returning to its former glory.

"At the moment, one may say we have reached a point of stalemate. In other words, a party with 20% election results can have great sway in the general political posture of government. That is why we believe we should not even have considered them, we could have pulled together a different coordination."
