Tyla, Makhadzi shine bright at BET Awards

1 July 2024 | 11:47Tyla won Best New Artist and Best International Act while Makhadzi won Best New International Act.
The South African flag shined bright on the BET Awards stage as musicians Tyla and Makhadzi took home coveted awards on Sunday (20 June).
Tyla became the first non-American to win Best New Artist, beating Sexxy Red, Ayra Starr. and several others.
She also took home the award for Best International Act.
“I did not prepare anything, but I just want to say thank you so much to my Tygers, my family, my team. Thank you to BET for always pushing the culture," she said after accepting the award.

New Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie congratulated the pair on social media.
