A Zimbabwean accused of murder currently serving time in a Cape Town prison has boasted on social media about the good life he is living behind bars.
Bornface Banks, who uses the account BonybanksKayz on TikTok, has recorded numerous videos inside Goodwood Correctional Centre.
He has almost 15 000 followers.
One video, posted last month, has been viewed over a million times.
In it Banks brags, "You put us in prison and you think we are suffering. No, my brother, we are doing extremely fine. Look how happy we are."
Groenewald says Banks' social media outing has earned him an extra charge to his rap sheet and confirmed that he has been removed from the specific facility.

"The person is also charged with the illegal possession of a cellphone."

"There is a further investigation, I want to know, how did it happen that a prisoner had a cellphone with him?"
- Dr. Pieter Groenewald, Minister of Correctional Services
Groenewald says it's obvious that the prison in question has a security problem and/or a corruption problem.
"One of my priorities [as Minister] is corruption. We will have zero tolerance when it comes to corruption."
- Dr. Pieter Groenewald, Minister of Correctional Services
In the main, says Groenewald, prison staff are honest and hardworking.
"We must take hands with all the honest ones and stamp out and get rid of the bad apples."
