The Hawks have once again pounced on Joburg City Power's headquarters, this time seeking details about a questionable R67 million contract.

It's understood that the probe is linked to a purchase order for electricity transformers in 2023.

However, well-placed sources have told EWN that although R67 million was paid, the transformers were never delivered.

The Hawks have confirmed that they conducted a search and seizure as part of their ongoing investigation into City Power tenders.

EWN has seen a confidential purchase order, Johannesburg City Power sent to a contractor for several electricity transformers.

The order specified that the transformers were to be delivered by 22 December 2023, but insiders indicate this never happened.

A convoy of several Hawks vehicles was spotted entering the City Power headquarters this morning to collect evidence related to the R67 million purchase order.

City power spokesperson Isaac Mangena has confirmed that the Hawks were seeking information on several questionable contracts.

"They have been requesting information every now and then and we have been cooperating. We will continue cooperating with any of the investigations, either by the Hawks or any other authorised legal entity of government."

Just two months ago, the Hawks visited City Power offices as part of an investigation into other questionable contracts.
