The Investigating Directorate (ID) of the NPA will be bolstering its ranks.

Paul Pretorius and Matthew Chaskalson are senior counsels with extensive and distinguished legal careers.

The ID only recently obtained permanent status, five years after its formation.

The organisation has struggled with capacity constraints, even bungling some key cases.

Pretorius notes that as a consultant, he will be playing a hands-on role assisting in strategy, information, data and analysis.

He says that both he and Chaskalson have a great deal of knowledge that can help improve the unit's focus.

However, he asserts that the two of them alone will not resolve the capacity issues.
