'Hedkayse' revolutionary protective gear helps keep rugby players safer

John Maytham speaks to Tim Stimpson, former British Lions player, about a new innovative technology for rugby players' safety called Hedkayse.

Independent research and testing has been carried out with both The British College of Osteopathic Medicine and Imperial College London to develop 'Hedkayse' - a revolutionary head covering that rugby players (and other sports people) can wear to help mitigate the risks of concussions.

'Hedkayse' started as a casual idea from ex-British and Irish Lions player Tim Stimpson and product mastermind, George Fox.

After undergoing countless design stages, iterations, prototypes, testing, and design refinement – a safer head guard was born, contributing to a safer future for rugby.

Earlier this year, World Rugby also announced that they intend to make the sport 'as safe as possible for players.'

First, World Rugby authorised changes to the 'crocroll,' players were encouraged to wear mouth guards and now head cases/guards have been approved for players' safety - at any level - from junior rugby to pro.

Hedkayse's innovative technology is considered as the best because it covers more of the players' head, has a specific absorptive foam allowing players to play in any temperature while giving them more head coverage, says Stimpson.

Hedkayse will be coming to South Africa soon, says Stimpson.

For now, you can check them out online.
