Gauteng ANC in talks with DA over City of Tshwane, says Lesufi

JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng said it has already informed its national office of its intent to enter into talks over the City of Tshwane with the Democratic Alliance (DA).

Its chairperson, Panyaza Lesufi, has told EWN that the blue party approached the ANC over the capital city, with a view of not wanting to disrupt government.

The DA is facing a possible ousting, following the cementing of a working relationship between the ANC and several organisations, including ActionSA in Johannesburg.

While the DA refused to back an ANC mayor in Johannesburg, it’s confirmed that it’s informally approached the former liberation movement about Tshwane.

Lesufi said the ANC doesn’t necessarily want to disrupt government.

"We were confronted by correspondence from the DA. They want to discuss the issue of Tshwane with us and we are more than willing to do so. So we have started those negotiations but there is no rush, we want to bring all our partners to the table, so they can review what is on the table by the DA."
