CAPE TOWN - Four suspects have been killed and another four have been seriously wounded in a shootout with police in Milnerton.
An operation was carried out by a Western Cape task team on Thursday night, after members received information about wanted alleged extortionists.
The suspects were driving in a minibus taxi at the time.
Police said the wounded suspects - between the ages of 23 and 38 - were in a medical facility under police guard.
Four firearms and rounds of ammunition were found in their vehicle.
"When the occupants of the vehicle spotted the police in pursuit, they started firing shots at them and the police retaliated," said the police's Novela Potelwa.
"As a consequence, there were four fatalities and four injuries. Police are still investigating."
