JOHANNESBURG - Former African National Congress (ANC) President Thabo Mbeki says the renewal process of the party has not been achieved as it still harbours corrupt individuals.

Mbeki said in the last three national policy conferences, the ANC has adopted motions to renew the quality of members within its ranks, however, it has not properly followed through.

The former state president was speaking to students at the University of South Africa (UNISA) in Pretoria, on Tuesday.

Mbeki said the ANC cannot effectively deal with corruption from its members without renewing itself.

“In all of these conferences, the ANC keeps saying the quality of our membership is declining and as a result of which you have got many people who are members of the ANC who are not ANC, don’t support its value systems, its objectives its anything. And therefore, the renewal process of the ANC must include an audit of this membership.”
