JOHANNESBURG - The Higher Education Department has pledged to ensure the compliance of deregistered private colleges.
Earlier this year, four private tertiary institutions, including Damelin and City Varsity, were unlisted following their failure to submit audited financial statements.
However, they've recently been re-registered after more than 50,000 students were left stranded and uncertain about thier academic futures.
Speaking at a media briefing in Pretoria on Monday, Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane said that a team had been deployed to keep a close eye on the colleges.
"We have given them an opportunity to correct themselves and the teams that are working with Educor are giving us reports that are satisfactory and there is a good working relationship with our teams. We are trying to assist the institution to fully comply with the minister's instruction."
