Ride to Darling
When: Saturday, 21 Sep 2024
Where: Starting at Chris Willemse Cycles in Durbanville, ending at Darling Brew in Darling
About the event:
This annual charity ride is organszed by Dragonfly Tri and aims to support the Tiny Owls Baby Home, a non-profit organisation in Durbanville that provides care for abandoned infants. With nursing staff available around the clock, they ensure these little ones receive the medical attention they need while awaiting adoption.
Don’t worry if you’re new to cycling; there will be a back-up vehicle following the slower groups to assist anyone who needs support along the way.
Ride breakdown:
Participants can choose from three groups based on their speed:
- Slow Group: Starts at 8:00 AM (21-23 km/h)
- Medium Group: Starts at 8:10 AM (23-26 km/h)
- Fast Group: Starts at 8:20 AM (+26 km/h)
Refreshments & support
There will be several water and refreshment stops along the route:
- 22 km - Corner of Adderley Road and Philadelphia Road
- 44 km - Corner of Old Malmesbury Road and Olyvenhoek Mine
- 70 km - R315 at Darling Cellars gate (just after train tracks)
- 85 km - At Darling Brew

Registration date and time: Saturday, September 21, starting at 7:00 AM at Chris Willemse Cycles.
Entry fee: R100 for the charity ride
If you need a lift back after the event, shuttles will be available at an additional cost, departing at 3 pm.

Sweat for a cause on Heritage Day
When: 24 September from 9am to 10:30am
Where: Bergvliet Sports Association
About the event: Looking for a fun and impactful way to work out?
This special fitness event is happening at the Bergvliet Sports Association from 9:00 am to 10:30 am.
The event will kick off with a Strong Nation class—a high-intensity workout combining bodyweight exercises synced to music, perfect for boosting strength, stamina, and cardio fitness.
Afterward, enjoy a CIRCL Mobility class, focusing on flexibility, breathwork, and mobility exercises to help you stretch, restore, and recharge. It’s a full-body experience, ideal for all fitness levels for a purpose.
The event is all for a good cause—bring along some dog food donations for the Indelicate Pit Bull Rescue!

Stellenzicht Rhino Run
When: Saturday, September 21, 2024
Registration kicks off at 8:00 am, and the run will start at 9:00 am.
Where: Stellenzicht Wine Farm, Stellenbosch, Western Cape
About: A fun-filled 5km run for adults and under 18s, set against the stunning backdrop of Stellenzicht Wine Farm. Join for a morning of fitness and fun as the run raises funds for Rhino Conservation.
25% of your entry fee goes directly to Project Rhino to support their conservation efforts!

Spring Trail Run presented by Sportsmans Warehouse

About the event: Celebrate the arrival of spring with this exhilarating trail run in the picturesque Knorhoek valley.
This event is perfectly timed for the long weekend and Heritage Day (Braai Day), making it a fantastic opportunity to enjoy nature while getting your fitness fix.

- 11 km: starts at 08:15 am
- 6 km: starts at 08:30 am
Registration and costs
- Registration opens from 07:30 am on event day
Entry fees:
- 6 km: R150
- 11 km: R180
- Kids under 18 pay only R60 pre-entry.
Pre-entries close online on Saturday, September 22, at midnight.
Late entries will be accepted on the day of the event at an additional fee.

Big Bay Mile Swim Race
When: Tuesday, 24 September 2024
Where: Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club, Cape Town, Western Cape
About the event: An exciting open water swim organised by the Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club, renowned for its dedication to surf, lifesaving and community service - the event not only promises a thrilling swim but also supports local charities through clothing and blanket donations collected on the day.
Swim breakdown
Start time: Swimmers will gather at the Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club at 08:45 am to walk down to the race start at Scissors Rock, with the race commencing at 09:00 am.
Entry fees:
- 1 Mile swim race: R200 if you pre-register online (until 07:30 on race day).
- Late entries: R250 (CASH ONLY) until 08:30 on race day.
Categories and recognition
Swimmers can compete in various categories:
- Juniors (13 to 18 years)
- Open skins (male and female)
- Open wetsuits (male and female)
Lifesavers (male and female):
Special recognition will be awarded to the top three swimmers in each category, as well as for the first registered male and female lifesavers and the top lifesaving club based on results.
Important notes:
Swimmers under 14 must have a Lifesaving South Africa Level 3 Nipper Award to participate.
Brightly coloured swim caps are recommended, and while tow floats are optional, fins or snorkels are not allowed.
All clothing and blankets donated will go to local charities.

Hike The Vines @ Olsen Private Vineyards

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Groot Drakenstein mountain range, this hike will take you through award-winning vineyards and beautiful landscapes.
Hikers will enjoy a scenic route that includes a stop for wine tasting and snacks at one of the vineyard's picturesque farm dams.
