KZN IEC member accused of stealing ballot boxes expected back in court

DURBAN - A KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) IEC official accused of stealing ballot boxes during the May elections is back in the dock on Thursday.
Musawenkosi Mnikathi returns to the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court in a case related to the alleged unauthorised transportation of ballots on election day.
The State is expected to cross-examine its first witness, an uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party member.
Mnikathi was the area manager for the IEC during the May national and provincial elections.
He was nabbed for allegedly transporting ballot boxes without supervision.
The MK Party is monitoring this case with a keen interest.
Several party supporters have filled the gallery.
They believe this matter backs up their claims of vote rigging.
Proceedings are expected to get underway soon.
