CAPE TOWN - Housing activist group, Reclaim the City (RTC) said it would be keeping an eye on the City of Cape Town's plan to release parts of the Mowbray golf course for affordable housing.
RTC, who have been advocating for more social housing in the Western Cape, on Wednesday welcomed the city's plan.
A public participation process is now open for the redevelopment the golf course.
The plan includes a mixed-use, mixed-income development, including affordable housing and a public green space.
Nick Budlender, from RTC's legal arm, Ndifuna Ukwazi, said that while the city's plan was a significant step in the right direction, the city would be held accountable throughout the process.
"Of course, our primary interest is to ensure both that the city maximises the number of affordable homes that are included and that it acts with the necessary urgency."
