JOHANNESBURG - The five men behind the Ngcobo police attack have each been granted a life sentence.
The Mthatha High Court handed down the ruling on Wednesday.
In 2018, five on-duty police officers were shot and killed after being disarmed of their service weapons.
The criminals also took off with at least ten firearms, including rifles, 9mm pistols and ammunition.
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola vowed that those who attacked police would face the full wrath of the law.
Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said this sentence meant justice had been served for the South African Police Service’s fallen heroes.
"To our fallen heroes, may your souls continue to rest in peace knowing that your killers were brought to justice. The SAPS flag continues to fly high because of men and women in blue like yourselves who died defending it."
