DURBAN - One person has been confirmed dead as heavy and disruptive rains continue to wreak havoc in parts of the Eastern Cape leaving thousands of people destitute.

The flooding saw some motorists stuck on the roads, while authorities attended to affected areas.
The SA Weather Service issued a level 6 warning for disruptive rains in the province.
As the evening drew closer on Tuesday afternoon, scores of people have been left stranded. Some of their homes have been destroyed in the Nelson Mandela Bay metro.
Some residents are still trapped inside their homes due to the deluge caused by a severe storm in the area.
Most parts of the metro are also without electricity as the rain also resulted in power cuts.
And while the municipality says it has dispatched disaster teams to assist those affected, they may take time to reach most affected parts.
Eyewitness News understands the municipality is currently holding a meeting as they prepare to attend to the damage and affected communities.
