CoCT flags MyCiTi phishing scam on Facebook, urges residents not to share it

CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town is warning residents of a a MyCiTi phishing scam.
Officials have become aware of a new Facebook page called "Cape Town public transport card" that falsely offers six months free travel when using the bus service and a discount on cards.
Urban Mobility MMC Rob Quintas said the posts were fake and not in any way endorsed by the city.
"These fraudulent posts are circulating on Facebook and possibly on other social media channels. We have reported this account and its contents to Meta/Facebook and have requested the urgent removal of posts. Members of the public are advised not to share these posts nor engage with them but rather choose the report option on Facebook and select the scam, fraud or impersonation category."
