JOHANNESBURG - The Public Utility Transport Corporation (PUTCO is launching a digital ticket to get rid of its paper-based system.
The bus company will replace the existing system with smart cards that work like bank cards to reduce the risk of fake ticket sales.
The new Smart Tap system is designed to avoid unauthorised resellers as it can trace where tickets are bought.
PUTCO spokesperson Lindokuhle Xulu said the card can also be used on other public transport modes.
“The system also aligns with the 2030 mobility vision where the government wants to implement an integrated transport system. This means that passengers will be able to move from one mode or transport to another.
For example, from a bus into a train and even into a taxi. PUTCO is proud to take this step forward and usher its passengers to a future of travelling with convenience.”
