CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Community Safety MEC Anroux Marais said the reinstatement of the province's crime intelligence boss is an insult to the justice system.
She made the remarks after Mzwandile Tiyo's return to his position following his dismissal more than two months ago for misconduct.
Tiyo was let go after claiming that he lost his service firearm and laptop, but a disciplinary process found he misused state resources to track people who stole from him and subsequently assaulted them.
Marais said Tiyo failed to do his job while he was in office.
“If this critical policing unit is to turn itself around, the likes of Tiyo should be kept well away from the SAPS [South African Police Service]. He cannot be allowed to return. This cannot stand. We will not allow it."
