JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources said that a weaker rand was one of a few factors that led to fuel price increases in December.
The latest fuel price adjustment came into effect on Wednesday morning.
Both grades of petrol will cost 17 cents more per litre, while diesel prices will increase by 54 cents a litre.
This is the second fuel price hike in as many months.
Department spokesperson Robert Maake: "The price of Brent crude oil decreased slightly on average during the period under review, from 73.28 to 72.70 US dollars per barrel.
“The average international prices of petrol decreased slightly, and diesel increased due to more demand in the northern hemisphere in general for the winter season."
