CAPE TOWN - Deputy President Paul Mashatile says they are looking forward to working with United States (US) President-elect Donald Trump.
On Thursday, Mashatile responded to questions in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on strengthening the country’s foreign missions.
Mashatile said the US remains a strategic partner and they’re planning on having further engagements with the incoming Trump administration.
The Government of National Unity (GNU) has already sent a mission to the US earlier in 2024 for discussions around issues of trade.
Mashatile said they would head back to the US to discuss things like the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), the US trade agreement that provides duty-free access to the US market for African countries.
“To go and ensure that we engage again on issues of AGOA and others. But we are looking forward to working with President Trump and the team from the US.”
Mashatile said they would also continue attracting foreign investment, adding that the GNU has been well received by foreign investors.
