CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town says it's cashed in nearly R7 million during its recent traffic fine roadshow.
Mayco member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, said that more than 3,000 road users paid close to 20,000 fines and 7,000 warrants during the roadshow last week.
Smith said that during the same seven-day period, traffic police issued more than 50,000 fines and impounded more than 2,000 public transport vehicles.
"It is my hope that they will use this clean slate to stay on the side of right going forward. However, the number of offences recorded in the past week shows just how much work we still have to do in achieving greater compliance with the rules of the road."
