Samora Machel councillor calls for intervention over alarming crime levels

JOHANNESBURG - Ward 33 councillor in Samora Machel in Cape Town, Lungisa Somdaka, said that crime in the area had reached alarming levels.
He was speaking at a crime imbizo led by deputy police ministers Cassel Mathale and Polly Boshielo at a local high school.
Samora Machel is one of the townships mostly affected by crime and features in the top 30 police stations with the highest murder rate countrywide.

Somdaka said that even service delivery trucks were afraid to enter the area fearing for their lives.
"They make all of these people live in fear, so I hope that your presence here is going to make a difference and leave these people with hope that in the near future maybe there'll be a change in our community in terms of safety."
