CAPE TOWN - Steely-eyed police have simultaneously thwarted a robbery and cracked a stolen car case in Nyanga.
Officers were called out to a robbery-in-progress in Gugulethu's KTC section on Tuesday.
But as soon as they arrived, the armed suspects fled the scene, before opening fire.
Police spokesperson, Frederick van Wyk, explained what happened next.
"The vehicle was forced to come to a halt in 5th Avenue, Zwelitsha, when it bumped a road obstacle. The three suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran in different directions. The members gave chase and managed to arrest one suspect."
Van Wyk said the suspects' vehicle was reported as hijacked in Nyanga in December.
"The suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court for attempted murder, possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and possession of suspected stolen property once charged."
