CAPE TOWN - A Blue Downs Magistrates Court police officer accused of rape has been remanded in custody for a week for him to find a lawyer.

The officer, who is a court orderly at the same court, appeared on a rape charge.

He's accused of sexually assaulting a female who had appeared at the same court he worked in last week Tuesday.

Constable Naveron Jacobs works as a court orderly in the sexual offences section of the Blue Downs Magistrates Court.

He was arrested on Friday last week, following an investigation by police watchdog IPID.

Jacobs appeared in front of Magistrate Andre Maqubu on Monday and his case was postponed and transferred to the Kuilsriver Magistrates Court for next week Monday.

He is the third policeman to be arrested and charged with rape in the Western Cape in the space of two months.
