More charges likely to be added against Cape Town cop accused of rape

CAPE TOWN - More charges are likely to be added against another Cape Town police officer linked to a rape incident at the Blue Downs Magistrates Court.

Constable Naveron Jacobs is accused of raping a female inmate who was appearing at the Blue Downs Magistrate's Court last week Tuesday.

Jacobs was arrested last week Friday and made his first court appearance at the same court he works.

He is charged with rape and attempted sexual assault.

The National Prosecution Authority (NPA)'s spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila, said the State intends opposing the accused's bail application.

"More charges are likely to be added against the Mfuleni Police Station-based police officer as the investigation continues."

The case has been postponed to next week Monday for him to appear at the Kuilsriver Magistrates Court and for his legal representation.
