CAPE TOWN - The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) says it was thinking about doing its own investigation into reports that some schools in wealthy areas were exempt from the recent teacher post cuts in the Western Cape.
This follows a damning article by researcher and education consultant, Dr Seelan Naidoo.
He claims there were 437 schools that did not appear on the "chopping list".
But SADTU said it hadn’t seen anything sinister with the list of schools where teacher posts were not renewed.
It, however, said it was holding a neutral view until it launched its own investigation.
The union's provincial secretary, Sibongile Kwazi: "They use a certain formula and that formula has applied uniformly in the system. So we can't support or deny the allegations because we don't have any scientific evidence from our side to dispute that."
Meanwhile, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has dismissed the allegations, calling it an attack and political propaganda.
