JOHANNESBURG - Magalies Water says the water level at the Vaalkop Dam has risen significantly.
It said the latest data indicates the water level at the North West dam is now at 50% following recent rainfall.
The bulk water supplier added that the earlier 30% reduction abstraction rate, which was imposed due to extremely low dam levels has also been revised.
In 2024, it informed residents receiving bulk water that there would be water supply interruptions.
At the time, the Vaalkop Dam had reached an all-time low of 23%.
This was attributed to low rainfall and persistent high temperatures in the region.
However, Magalies Water spokesperson, David Magae said due to recent rainfall in the catchment areas dam levels have improved.
“Current data indicates that the dam levels are sitting at about 50% and Magalies Water continues to encourage consumers to use water sparingly as demand of portable water in the region remains high… in addition to South Africa being a water scarce country.”
