JOHANNESBURG - At least 21 South African police officers have been murdered since October last year to date.
 
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola on Sunday revealed that 30 suspects were arrested for the deadly attacks over the festive season.

Masemola said seven of the perpetrators received a collective of 22 life sentences, with an added 725 years imprisonment.  

Curbing police killings is high up on their to-do list, said the commissioner.

“What is encouraging to note is that we have categorized these police killings as a national priority offence, as the law allows the national head of the directorate of priority crime investigation to declare certain crimes a national priority.”
