JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Co-Operative Governance & Traditional Affairs (COGTA) in KwaZulu-Natal has announced significant progress in restoring electricity to communities affected by the removal of its electricity supply.
Inclement weather conditions in the northern part of the province caused significant damage to homes in the area, including several transformers that needed to be removed -- leaving many residents in the dark.
Thirteen out of 18 transformers damaged have been restored - and the electricity supply has been reinstated.
Eskom and KZN COGTA worked together to restore electricity to the community of the Abaqulusi Municipality's Community of Mondlo.
KZN COGTA MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi has expressed satisfaction with the progress - highlighting the positive outcome achieved through collaboration with Eskom.
"The MEC for COGTA will be visiting the community of Mondlo today where he will be dealing directly with recent damage that has been caused by inclement weather conditions which disrupted power supply and damaged homes across large parts," said Department spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila.
