JOHANNESBURG - A risk assessment is currently underway after a bullet was found on the doorstep of the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Public Works Martin Meyer’s office.
It is understood this is the second time this has occurred.
The MEC’s spokesperson, Steve Bhengu, said these incidents seemed to occur whenever Meyer denounced the construction mafia publicly.
In 2024, shortly after Meyer had taken office, a used bullet shell was found in his official car.
It was seen as a direct threat after he declared war on the construction mafia in the province.
Earlier this week, his staff found a bullet on his office doorstep.
"This latest incident takes place as the MEC, along with office staff, were returning to work after hosting a very successful two-day Build KZN Better conference at the Durban ICC, where MEC Meyer had reiterated that the event will not be an envelope exchange platform for underhanded deals," said Bhengu.
Bhengu said the matter had been reported to the police.
