Department spokesperson Bronagh Hammond says these violent acts show a complete lack of empathy.

CAPE TOWN -The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has condemned the sharing of videos showing school kids fighting each other.

A video of a recent attack on a female pupil from Lotus High School has been widely shared on social media.

It shows a group of pupils, including boys, attacking her.

Department spokesperson Bronagh Hammond says these violent acts show a complete lack of empathy.

"Well these incidents portray a deep lack of humanity and compassion for fellow learners and in addition, the filming, distribution and sharing of these incidents is deeply shameful.”

Bronagh adds that the distribution of a victim’s experience on social media adds to the abuse they endured.
