Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner, Shadrack Sibiya, claims the province of KwaZulu-Natal was not part of national operational plans to address organised crime following a fallout between himself and provincial commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Testifying before Parliament, Sibiya, referred to how Mkhwanazi and himself got into a heated exchange over the murder case of Kiernan “aka” Forbes.
This after former police minister, Bheki Cele, requested members of the investigating team from KZN travel to Pretoria to brief him on those arrested for Forbes’ murder.
Sibiya claims he called the deputy provincial commissioner in KZN, assuming Mkhwanazi would be busy, to request the members travel to brief Cele.
Mkhwanazi did not take kindly to Sibiya bypassing him and speaking to his deputy.
Sibiya alleges this resulted in the province of KZN suffering as Mkhwanazi refused to form part of national policing operations to combat organised crime thereafter.
“Cash-in-transit is high in KZN, we’ve got hitmen, we’ve got drugs at the harbour, we’ve got people burning the trucks. We’ve got a number of issues that was happening in kzn and yet there’s no relationship so KZN was suffering.”
