Four suspects arrested for the brutal murder of a LEAP officer are set to appear in the Athlone Magistrate's Court.
City of Cape Town Mayco member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, said he'd be joining slain officer Yonke Pakade's family at court.
Pakade was stabbed during a hijacking in Marikana informal settlement on Sunday and later succumbed to his injuries.
The 26-year-old off-duty officer's vehicle was found abandoned in the area.
Smith said LEAP officers found Pakade while he was trying to flee from his attackers, but he later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
Smith said initially, three suspects were arrested.
"The team arrested another suspect in Philippi East and recovered a knife believed to be the murder weapon. The four suspects are set to appear in the Athlone Magistrate's Court on Tuesday."
Smith has called on the State to oppose the suspects' release on bail while the investigation continues.
