JOHANNESBURG - The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has revealed that thousands of beneficiaries have opted to ditch the Postbank black cards for other banks ahead of the migration deadline.
The entity's gold card users have been forced to migrate to the new Postbank black cards to curb a security breach.
The process began in March last year, with an estimate of more than 600,000 gold card beneficiaries who needed to complete the swop.
SASSA's Rachel Setshedi said that the number of beneficiaries without new cards had decreased.
"As of 11 March 2025, we had already changed 413,000 cards. The total then is 451,000 and we have a remaining balance of beneficiaries that must still be serviced sitting at 181,285.
She added that not all were part of the transition.
"37,800 beneficiaries have opted to go to other banks and SASSA assisted them with that."
