JOHANNESBURG - Action SA in Johannesburg has denied claims that it supports the ANC-led government's proposal to rename Sandton drive.
The city is in the process of renaming the road to Leila Khaled drive, in honour of the Palestinian struggle icon.
The proposal is currently undergoing a public consultation process before a final decision is made.
The Johannesburg City Council is divided, with one group opposing the renaming of Sandton drive and another supporting it.
DA leader in Johannesburg, Belinda Kaiser Echeozonjoku, has condemned Action SA for allegedly changing its position and backing the renaming of the road to Sandton drive.
"The ANC, EFF, PA and Action SA have voted against the motion to rescind the renaming. That is a total insult to residents of Sandton drive."
However, Action SA has criticized the DA, accusing it of misleading the public.
The party said it remains opposed to the renaming and has no intention of supporting the change.
