CAPE TOWN - A group of social grant recipients in Eerste River are livid after operating hours were not extended for the switching over of SASSA cards.
This is despite the Postbank card migration system crashing for at least three hours there on Thursday afternoon.
March 20 was the deadline for social grant beneficiaries to swap from SASSA gold cards to the new Postbank black cards.
Postbank said it would continue with the card swap until the end of June at selected Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, Boxer and Spar stores.
Tempers flared when a handful of social grant beneficiaries were turned away at the Eerste River service site just after 4pm on Thursday afternoon.
They were part of more than 200 grant recipients who had been queueing outside one of the selected retail stores here.
One beneficiary told Eyewitness News that she was turned away for the second time in a week.
"I'm hurt because I travelled from Stellenbosch to be here. I even borrowed the money to come here. I don't have money to come back here next week."
She's concerned that she might not be able to do the card swap.
