JOHANNESBURG - The Umphakathi Wesizwe organisation has threatened to disrupt a meeting of global leaders during South Africa's G20 presidency this year if Joburg mayor Dada Morero fails to meet its housing demands for its members.
On Thursday the group from Soweto marched to the mayor's office to submit a memorandum of demands over housing needs.
Group leader Lebogang Kgatle said that the country cannot host global leaders while South Africans contend with poor service delivery.
The organisation has given the mayor seven days to respond to its demands, including mass allocation of RDP houses and the repurposing of hijacked buildings to meet demand.
Kgatle said, "If they don't respond to us what we are going to do next is to disrupt their G20 meeting so that we expose them to the world about how corrupt they are."
