JOHANNESBURG - RISE Mzansi has cautioned that education centres are fast becoming crime centres.
This followed the rape of a seven-year-old girl in Eastern Cape after her mother reported that the child was violated on school premises in Matatiele in 2024.
The party noted that there was a year-on-year increase in violent crimes reported at educational institutions across the country.
RISE Mzansi’s Mabine Seabe said they would approach the relevant authorities to find out how they were dealing with such cases.
"RISE Mzansi will be submitting a series of questions to the ministers of basic education, higher education and training, justice and constitutional development, and police to understand what active steps are being taken to ensure South African learners and students, particularly girls and women, are kept safe at educational institutions."
