In March, IPID publicly announced they were investigating Mkhwanazi after he allegedly interfered with the arrest of a correctional services official in Richard’s Bay in 2023.

JOHANNESBURG – KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) provincial police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is not fazed by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID)'s into him.

In March, IPID publicly announced they were investigating Mkhwanazi after he allegedly interfered with the arrest of a correctional services official in Richard’s Bay in 2023.

In an exclusive interview with Eyewitness News, Mkhwanazi said that he found it odd that IPID’s probe came just days after he decided to clear crime intelligence counter and security head, Feroz Khan, during a disciplinary hearing in March.

The probe into Khan was initiated by IPID after several officers arrested during a 2021 Joburg cocaine bust registered a case with the police watchdog against Khan.

“I feel it comes from that institution (IPID) who wanted Khan gone. Because they couldn’t get him out and now they’re turning their focus on me. Well, I will take it. They can try with whatever they will come up with. They will do this investigation, they can launch any other investigation that they want to, they have got a constitutional right to do that, I can’t stop them - but the truth will always come out.”
