JOHANNESBURG - The decision on whether former Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng will face an impeachment inquiry is set to be announced on Friday.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) must make the decision following a complaint by impeached Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe.

Hlophe laid the complaint, claiming that Mogoeng had a secret meeting with his then-deputy Judge Patricia Goliath, influencing her to lay a complaint against him.
If the JSC agrees with a recommendation by the Judicial Conduct Committee (JCC), Mogoeng would be the first chief justice to face impeachment.
Hlophe wants Mogoeng impeached for allegedly influencing Goliath to lodge a complaint against him, alleging assault and abusive language.
But Mogoeng said his meeting with Goliath was not a secret but was held in the normal course of executing his judicial leadership responsibilities and was immersed in integrity.
The JCC, led by Chief Justice Mandisa Maya, recommended that Mogoeng face an impeachment inquiry but it’s the JSC which must make the final decision.
