No road user in South Africa is a stranger to potholes.

They often pepper our daily routes, and they can take forever to get fixed.

When they are rebuilt, we often see them deteriorating very quickly.

The reason for this is because pothole repairs are only meant to be a temporary measure according to Muthen.

However, we sometimes also see entire stretches of road deteriorate soon after they are redone.

Muthen says issues with the road repairs only really become clear once the road is open.

Recently the state of the roads and potholes has been worse because of the abnormal rainfall in certain regions.
