MTHATHA - A friend and classmate of a young man shot and killed on campus at the Walter Sisulu University in Mthatha has described him as a kind and caring person.
Sisonke Mbolekwa was killed while protesting over what the SRC said were unresolved issues related to accommodation.
A residence manager from the institution is allegedly behind the shooting.

On Wednesday, Mbolekwa's family visited the campus and were received by hundreds of students in support of them, calling for justice to prevail.
A student, who wished to remain anonymous, told EWN that Mbolekwa was dedicated to his studies.
"Sisonke was so calm, he was a calm person, he never liked any chaos. Like everything about him was right, you'd never hear that he had a late submission; he was always on time."
Angered by the university's statement that her friend was not a registered student, she had this to say.
"He was a fully registered student. They are lying, there is no such. How can we even fight for someone who was not a student? How can we waste our time for someone who is not a student, you see? He was a registered student, he was my classmate since 2023."
The higher education ministry has since confirmed that Mbolekwa was a student at the institution.
