JOHANNESBURG - Wildlife officials in Mpumalanga have captured one of two lions spotted roaming near Bushbuckridge.

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency said residents of Malamule village raised the alarm after seeing the animals earlier this week.

The agency’s spokesperson Simphiwe Shungube has confirmed that while one lion has been safely captured, the other is still on the loose.

He said a search team is on the ground and has urged the public not to approach or attempt to capture the lion themselves.

“We can confirm that as Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency working together with SANParks, Sabi Sands and private reserves we have managed to locate one lion yesterday at around 14:00 at Huntington.”
