JOHANNESBURG - City Power said it would begin its assessments of the tunnels damaged by an underground fire in Braamfontein.

Preliminary investigations indicate the incident may have been caused by a case of cable theft.

In the meantime, the power supplier said they were currently using their interconnector cables to ensure that residents had some power supply.

City Power CEO, Charles Tlouane, said they would keep everyone updated on when the power supply would be fully restored.

"Our recovery plan will also be informed by the interconnector cables that were installed in the past when this incident happened. Then they will be able to indicate to customers how far we will be going in terms of restoration."
