As cold front hits, Joburg residents urged to exercise caution when using heating devices
Residents are encouraged to not leave heating devices such as heaters, paraffin stoves, and candles unattended while in use, to prevent the risk of fires.

JOHANNESBURG - The Johannnesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) is urging residents to be mindful of fire incidents when using heating devices, following a warning from the weather service of a cold front set to hit the province.
Residents are encouraged not yo leave heating devices such as heaters, paraffin stoves, and candles - unattended while in use, to prevent the risk of fires.
With the drop in temperature expected from this weekend, EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said firefighting teams were on high alert in all seven regions of the city.
"The South African Weather Service (SAWS) forecast suggest extremely cold temperatures in the city of Johannesburg. Residents are urged to exercise caution while using heating devices, young kids are monitored to stay away from these heating devices. Our residents in the informal settlements who are using mostly imbawula to ensure that they are using it in a well-ventilated area."
