DURBAN - The family of a Walter Sisulu University (WSU) student killed on campus during protests plans to approach parliament over delays in the case.

On Friday, the man charged with Sisonke Mbolekwa's murder, Manelisi Mampane, an employee at the institution, was meant to apply for bail. But the case was postponed to next week Tuesday due to a power outage at the Mthatha Magistrates Court.

Family spokesperson, Ncedo Kolanisi said he wants relevant parliamentary committees to be roped in, citing incompetency at the court.

"We will be writing to Justice and SCOPA [Standing Committee on Public Accounts] so that there can be an oversight in this court because it means that we have an incompetent court manager that cannot solve issues such as electricity."

He alleged that court management was failing to do its job.

"And what surprises me is that each and every building around has got lights, so my suspicions is that they did not pay their rates, that is why their light got cut. It's incompetence on the highest level."

Meanwhile, SRC secretary at the institution, Sakhumzi Khambule said as students, they would not back down in their demand for justice.

"We are not going to back down. On Tuesday, we are going to be here in numbers, and we will be more than the number that you are seeing right now."
