JOHANNESBURG – Olympian Akani Simbine beat Olympic 100m silver medallist Kishane Thompson in Keqiao, People’s Republic of China on Saturday for his second 100m victory of the 2025 Diamond League.

The 31-year-old, a medallist in the 60m at the World Indoors in March, is unbeaten over 100 metres this season as he beat Thompson at the line in a photo finish. Simbine stopped the clock at 9.98 seconds with the Jamaican star finishing just 0.01s adrift.

Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo finished third in a time of 10.03s.

The Olympic relay silver medallist now boasts three victories in as many international 100m races this season. He also claimed the top step of the podium at last week’s Diamond League meeting in Xiamen, China.

Simbine is the form sprinter at the moment, clocking a world lead of 9.90s at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix in Gaborone on 12th April.
