DURBAN - The African National Congress (ANC) said it was worried about the poor performance experienced by the party in KwaZulu-Natal during recent by-elections.
The party's national leaders met the KwaZulu-Natal provincial task team in Durban on Thursday to discuss rebuilding the ANC in the province.
This is after the party suffered major losses in the 2021 local polls and the 2024 general polls.
The ANC is still fighting to reclaim lost ground in parts of the province, especially ahead of next year’s local government elections.
The party also admitted that a lot still needed to be done to improve the party’s image in the province
Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula cited discipline as one of the issues plaguing the ANC.
"Improve the image of the ANC that is battered in this province and at the same time restore confidence, discipline and sense of organisation within the ANC itself."
When asked about the party’s performance in the recently held by-elections, he expressed worry.
"Of course, any worry is worrisome to the ANC, and we will not say we are not worried about losing any ward to any other political party."
Mbalula said that he was confident that the provincial task team would restore the ANC to its former glory in the province.
