JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Transport will extend its working hours to reduce the backlog in the printing of driver’s licences, after the country’s only machine to do the job broke down.
On Thursday, the department announced that printing operations have resumed after 4 months.
Department spokesperson Collen Msibi said there are more than 700,000 outstanding cards across the country.
He also said they will provide updates on catch-up plans.
“This means working hours for staff members at the Driving License Card Agency, which is an entity of the department, will be extended to ensure the reduction of the backlog.”
